Last year, United offered a similar promotion, and I’m happy to report that it’s back again!
Book economy class round trip Saver award flights between November 6 – 19 for travel January 13th – March 11th, and you’ll save 20% on your redemption.
Of course, this is a low travel season to Europe, but a 48,000 mile trip to Europe is also pretty nice.
Remember, you can only fly on United Airlines metal (a flight operated by a United aircraft).
This international route map will help you identify cities where United flies.
You can view all the terms and conditions here.
How to book these flights
You don’t need to do anything special to find these discounted awards. Just be sure that your itinerary is within all the terms regarding dates and airlines.
Initially, I was trying to look at flights between Billings and Salzburg, but it was pricing out at 60,000 miles per person. I realized that my last segment was on Lufthansa. Once I used a destination where United flies, the tickets priced out at 48,000 miles per person.
If you wish, you can book an open jaw flight and still receive the 20% discount. For example, you can fly Chicago to Frankfurt, and then Paris to Chicago for 48,000 miles. You can also do a double open jaw and get the discount. A sample flight would be Chicago to Frankfurt, and then Paris to New York. This also prices out at 48,000 miles.
