Two Important Updates Regarding the Barclay Arrival World MasterCard

Update: The minimum spend requirement for the Barclay Arrival card has already increased to $3,000 in the first 90 days.

In the last few days, there’s been a couple of changes (unfortunately bad) to the Barclay Arrival World MasterCard.

First, (and yes I know this is old news) but The Points Guy reported that the minimum spend for the Barclay Arrival World MasterCard will be increasing to has increased to $3,000 in the near future.  I personally don’t have any details or insider information.  I wouldn’t see an extra $2,000 minimum spend as reason alone to get this card, but if you’ve been waiting to apply, I wanted you to be aware of this possible upcoming change.

Secondly, the Frequent Miler had a post mentioning that the payout for American Express Gift Cards was reduced to 2x.  Sure enough, I signed into my account and confirmed that the payout has dropped from 4x to 2x.

Since I recently posted about my cash back strategy, I thought I should let you know about the changes because I’d hate the idea of someone getting the card with hopes of buying American Express Gift Cards at 4x.

Still, I think 2x through the shopping portal and 2x (with bonus 10%) is a solid return for that card.

Two lessons:

1.  Act fast.  It seems like there are sometimes these types of promotions that only last for a day or two.  In order to get the best possible deals, you always need to be ready to act quickly.

2.  Diversify.  I like having credit cards from different companies because you’ll be able to jump on different offers as they come available.  Typically, during the year there will be an offer that more than justifies having a certain credit card.

Sorry I couldn’t have better news, but I just wanted to be sure you’re updated.
