Update: This offer has expired.
The information I have says that this is limited time promotion, but I don’t have any information on an end date.

You Can Start Your 2013 Companion Pass Strategy Today
In my last post, I suggested you wait until 2013 before applying for the card. However, there is a way you can apply for this card now and still be eligible to earn the Companion Pass in 2013 so it will last in 2014.
By the way, the strategy I’m explaining is exactly what I did last year. On November 9th, 2011, I applied for the Southwest personal card and the Southwest business card.
Step #1: Apply for both the business credit card and the personal credit card on the same day (using different browsers). You may be automatically approved for one and denied for the other, but 95% of the time you can just call the reconsideration department and get approval.
Business credit card tip: When filling out the application for your business credit card, be sure to fill it out correctly. If you just started a business (you want to sell gadgets on Ebay), then list your time in the business accordingly. If you’ve made $0 from your business, list that. You can be approved based on your personal income and not just your business income.
For the name of your business, enter your personal name. Just enter your social security number, and don’t enter a Business EIN # if you don’t have one.
Step #2: When you get the card, you can go ahead and activate it. However, you must not reach the $2,000 minimum spend before January 1st, 2013.
To get the Companion Pass, you need to earn 110,000 points in a single calendar year (Jan – Dec). If you reach your minimum spend in December and the points post in 2012, you’ll lose your opportunity to get the Companion Pass in 2013. The Companion Pass is valid until December 31st the year after you reach the Companion Pass status.
If a person were to apply for the credit card today, they would have three months to reach the minimum spend. That means they would have until February 13th, 2013 to reach the minimum spend.
When you time it right, both sets of points will post in 2013, and then you’ll now be within 10,000 points (minus however much of your spending dollars were in 2013) of getting a Companion Pass.
Step #3: From there, I’d buy up to 30,000 Marriott points (or however many you need when you include your spending points) for $375.
What Do I Get From These Two Credit Card Applications?
With two credit card applications, $168 in annual fees, and a maximum of $375, you can get $3,674 worth of flights.
You’ll have 110,000 Southwest Rapid Rewards points. Those points can be used for Wanna Get Away flights totaling $1,837.
Now, if every time you used the points you took a free companion with you, you’d end up with $3,674 worth of flights.
Remember, every time you fly after you get the Companion Pass and December 31st, 2014 (if you get it in 2013), you’ll be able to take someone on board with you for free.
See How Easy the Companion Pass is to Use
I have an upcoming trip to Washington, DC. All I did was to sign into my account, and you’ll see that below my reservation information is a text link that says “Add a Companion”.
From there, you can see my total of $5.00 (Sept 11th tax):
After that, I hit continue, and it already has the name of my companion (currently my wife). I just need to enter my credit card info to pay the $5.00, and I’ve got my wife on the flight with me for $5 roundtrip between Denver and Washington.
Even though I already have the Companion Pass and it is valid through December 31st, 2013, our plan is to get the Companion Pass for my wife. We need to wait another month so she’ll have more space between her most recent Chase application. Since we have three kids, that makes sense. However, if it was just the two of us, there wouldn’t be any point in having two companion passes.
