Promotions, Expiration Dates, and Other Travel News You Don’t Want to Miss

Here’s a quick list of important travel related events and happenings …

35% Transfer Bonus American Express Membership Rewards to British Airways as of June 7th, 2013.

Since I’m a fan of Avios I transferred about 100,000 Membership Reward points into 135,000 Avios.  A lot of folks don’t suggest speculatively transferring to Avios, but in my case I know that Avios are the most valuable way I can use my American Express Membership Rewards points.

If transferring points makes sense for you be sure you do that before June 7th, 2013.

Hilton American Express card holder benefits change as of June 15th, 2013.

If you have the Hilton HHonors Card from American Express you’ve eligible for points discounts on hotels for extended stays.  However, as of June 15th, 2013 those rates are increasing.

Currently rates for 4 night stays:

  • Category 5 = 125,000.  On or after June 15th, 2013 = 130,000.  This is an increase of 4%.
  • Category 6 = 125,000.  On or after June 15th, 2013 = 160,000.  An increase of 28%.
  • Category 7 = 145,000.  On or after June 15th, 2013 = 190,000.  You’ll pay an extra 31% more points.

With the addition of categories 8-10 with Hilton, those rates have now been published:

  • Category 8 = 220,000
  • Category 9 = 260,000
  • Category 10 = 300,000

Last Chance to get a Chase Sapphire Preferred MasterCard?

Dans Deals is reporting that the Chase Sapphire Preferred MasterCard may soon stop being issued.  If your’e thinking about getting Chase Sapphire Preferred MasterCard this may be the time.  I did confirm on my post where I had a link to apply or a new Chase Sapphire Preferred MasterCard that I can not find a link to apply for the Chase Sapphire Preferred MasterCard any more.  If you know of one please let me know.  MasterCard is accepted at stores like Sam’s and has better rental car insurance coverage in certain countries like Ireland, Israel and others.

US Airways Share Miles 50% Bonus through June 30th

No $30 processing fee for a limited time

Through June 30, 2013, when you share miles, you won’t pay the $30 processing fee and you’ll give 50% more miles – up to 25,000 bonus miles.

  • Share 10,000 miles, give 15,000 miles
  • Share 30,000 miles, give 45,000 miles
  • Share 50,000 miles, give 75,000 miles

Here’s how the math works out.  The total cost of sharing 50,000 miles (generating 25,000 new miles) is $537.50.  This works out to a cost of 2.15 cents each.  Personally I’d rather wait until they had a buy miles 100% bonus since you can get miles at 1.8 cents each during those promotions.

United MileagePlus Explorer Card no foreign currency transaction fee as of June 1st.

My personal favorite card to use overseas is still the Chase Sapphire Preferred (since you’ll earn more points than with the United card).  However, if you’ve got this card and plan to use it overseas you’ll now save about 3% per purchase.

Daily Get Away Sale is returning starting June 10th

Each year American Express runs a limited time sale on certain points or other hotel travel products.  You can see all the currently listed offers here.

Sample Travel Offers to be Offered:

  • $50 Alamo discount for $25
  • Bush Gardens admission $49
  • Sea World admission $45
  • 100,000 Club Carlson Points for $385

In the future I’ll blog about certain deals that I think might be worthy of consideration (of course that completely depends on your travel plans).

Well, I think that about wraps it up.  If I missed any travel related news or deadlines please feel free to add a comment.
