One of the biggest mistakes people make when shopping online is forgetting about cash back referral sites when shopping online.
Personally, if I’m going to buy something, I hope to get the best return possible on every transaction.
I used to try and take advantage of mileage bonuses when using online portals, but these days I think going for cash back is more valuable. I use that approach because I spend miles differently than I spend cash.
Use Cash Back Websites
Usually when I’m shopping online, my first stop is evreward.com. Evreward searches the current bonuses online to try and identify who’s giving the best bonus on a certain item. Just type in the name of the store where you want to shop, and Evreward will show you the bonuses being offered through the different online stores.
You’ll have to decide the value of a mile in order to know which portal has the best offer.
Upromise: They consistently have the highest payout (5% or more) at the places I usually shop.
Here’s the cash back on my most recent purchases:
- Walmart.com = 5%
- Officemax.com = 5%
- Tanga.com = 5%
- Bestbuy.com = 5%
- Spend $75 and earn 750 miles bonus.
- Spend $150 and earn 1,500 miles bonus.
- Spend $250 and earn 2,500 miles bonus.
A cool way to maximize this would be to combine a 60 mile per dollar magazine.com bonus with this bonus. Essentially, by spending $250 on magazines, you’d earn 17,500. That’s getting miles for 1.43 cents each.
Through 12/31/13, you can earn an additional 500 miles for every $250 you spend up to 2,500 miles.
