Hot Promotions Expiring – Deals You’d Be Crazy to Ignore

All good things must come to an end.

You, however, don’t want to be the person who misses out on these lucrative promotions.

American Express Rewards Transfer to British Airways With a 50% Bonus

Expires: May 31st, 2012

Last week I converted over 100,000 American Express Membership Rewards points to British Airways Avois (BA).  BA has one of those reward programs that you must fully understand because there are great redemption options and terrible ones, too.

BA miles are horrendous for ‘nearly free’ travel to Europe.  Why?  They typically charge in excess of $500 per ticket for fuel surcharges and others taxes and fees.  I’d never, never use the points in that way.  The only exception is Air Lingus where you can get flights from Boston to Ireland for 25,000 Avois round trip and less than $200 in taxes and fees.

BA miles are a poor option for long distance flights.  Why?  BA uses a distance based award chart.  The longer the flight, the more miles you’ll be forced to use.

However, there are reward redemptions that are hard to beat.  In my post on traveling around the world on six applications, I pointed out that South America, Hawaii, Australia, and US domestic flights are good uses of BA Avios points.

With that crash course in Avois, if you have Membership Rewards and plans to use BA Avois wisely, you should do so before this promotion ends.

British Airways Visa Up To 100,000 Avois Bonus

Expires: June 7th, 2012

For the last month or so, Chase has been offering a generous Avois bonus for the BA card.  Sign up, and after your first purchase with the card, you’ll get 50,000 Avois.  From there, each additional $10,000 you spend on the card in the first year will give you an extra 25,000 Avois, up to a total of 100,000.

What could you do with 50,000 Avois?  Here’s a quick sample:

Los Angeles to Hawaii for 25,000 Avios round trip.  Most destinations in the Caribbean for 10,000 Avois round trip.  Select destinations in the US for 9,000 Avois round trip.

The 100,00 British Airways Visa offer tends to come around once a year, so if you haven’t taken advantage of this promotion, I’d give it two thumbs up.

Club Carlson Promotions

Expires: Once sign up numbers are met (act now!)

Club Carlson is running three promotions that allow you to earn a ton of points for just a few hotels stays.

Radisson Big Night Give Away (limited to the first 100,000 participants)

After registering and completing a qualifying one night stay at a Radisson, you’ll get 50,000 Club Carlson points.  The promotion has been live for a few weeks, but is still open, so I’d act quickly on this.  Qualifying stay must be before July 15th, 2012.

Country Inn and Suites So Go Promotion (first 35,000 participants have already been met)

The secondary promotion for those who did not get in on the first promotion is 15,000 Club Carlson points after your first stay. Qualifying stay must be before July 15th, 2012.

Park Inn One Plus One Promotion (limited to first 20,000 participants)

After registering and completing a one night stay at Park Inn, you’ll get a bonus of 44,000 Club Carlson points.  The promotion has been live for a few weeks and is still open, so I’d act quickly on this.  Qualifying stay must be before July 15th, 2012.  This will be the hardest promotion for most of you, as there are only 10 Park Inn locations in North America.

With the three available promotions, you’ll earn a bonus 109,000 Club Carlson bonus points after three hotel stays.

Points can be redeemed at all Club Carlson brand hotels according to the following category redemption chart:

  • Category 1 – 9,000
  • Category 2 – 15,000
  • Category 3 – 28,000
  • Category 4 – 38,000
  • Category 5 – 44,000
  • Category 6 – 50,000

Here’s a list of the places where you can get seven award nights at Club Carlson category two locations.

Here’s an extra tip on the Club Carlson and Priority Club promotions.

Sign up for topcashback.com (my refer a friend link), and you’ll be able to start earning cash back on hotel stays and more.

  • Radisson get a 10% cash back bonus
  • Country Inn and Suites get a 10% cash back bonus
  • Holiday Inn (Intercontinental Hotels Group) get 6% cash back.  Last time I looked, it was 16%.  A better option is befrugal.com that allows you to earn 18% back on Intercontinental Hotel bookings.

Ultimate Rewards Promotions

Expires: Several promotions expire May 31st, 2012.

If you have the Ink Bold, Chase Sapphire Preferred, or Freedom card, you have the opportunity to earn even more when you shop at select retailers.  A post by Frequent Miler summarizes the current promotions.

For example, when using your Ink Bold, you can earn 5x bonus at Staples.com.  In addition, the Ink Bold offers 5x bonus for purchases at office stores.  The net result is 10x spent at Staples.  Staples sells a bunch of gift cards, so it’s a great way to spend money at your favorite retail store, restaurant, or hotel at 10 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar.
