It’s house keeping time. None of these points below justify and entire post, but together it’s valuable information to have.
Starwood Cash and Points Changes & Category Changes
By March 5th the new cash and point rates will kick in and the new categories will kick in. That means you must book by today (March 4th) if you want to book something at the old rates!!
Starwood cash and point and points only reservations are cancelable so if you have travel plans you might want to make some bookings (as long as you track your reservations and make sure to cancel them later if you end up not using the reservation).
AA Reduced Milage Awards
American Airlines credit card holders have access to select destinations at a discounted milage rate. American has released their discounted milage destination cities from April – June 2013. You can save 7,500 AAdvantage miles on a roundtrip flight to these destinations. There are about 100 destinations so it’s worth taking a moment to check out the list.
Remember, that as a card holder you may also be eligible for a 10% discount on redeemed award miles (with a 10,000 mile limit per year).
Office Depot Vanilla Updates
While was out of the country in January and February I’d seen reports that Office Depot was no longer carrying Vanilla prepaid cards up to $500. I have confirmed that with my local Office Depot store. Typically, cards around $200 are the maximum available. The advantage, of course, was for people with the Ink Bold or Ink Plus who get 5 points per dollar spent at office supply stores. As a reminder, there is still the option of buying gift cards so that at those locations you can still earn 5x.

By the way, my wife has the Club Carlson Visa and we’re excited to be getting some use out of their “One Night Free” with award bookings. When you have the credit card you can book a single award night and get a second award night free. That’s probably one of the best hotel credit card benefits currently available.
US Airways Purchase Miles Bonus
US Airways is offering 25%-100% bonus miles on purchased miles. You can get more details here.
This may be a good option if you’re interested in topping up an account or you’re planning a business class flight where the cost of miles is less than the cost of a revenue ticket.
